Well, let me just tell you one thing. The old lady had it coming! Think about it logically. If you're being targetted by the enemy and the only way of surviving is to take a hostage who you might be forced to kill, why not take an old lady? Someone who's already near the end of her life. Someone who's probably causing car accidents and getting people killed anyway. And if he hadn't taken her, he might have been forced to kill the entire class. It would have been a big mess. I think Sousuke should have been given a medal for his quick thinking, minimizing casualties and general contribution to society.

Oh, and one more thing on the issue of Sousuke being a merc and doing what he does for the money. If Sousuke was really in it for the money, do you think for a minute he couldn't have got to Amalgam and gotten a better deal?

He'd have been like, "Hey, Mr. Gold! I want more money, so if I go over to work for you, will you pay me more than Mithril?"

And you know Mr. Gold would be all like, "Sure. Bring along Arbalast and it's a deal."

Sousuke: "It's not a problem. However, I have some terms. Kaname is my chick. So Leonard has to keep his fruity paws off her."

Gold: "Done!"

Leonard: "WTF! I want her! I've been here longer! I'm a Whispered! Why's he get her???"

Gold: "STFU, you sissy. We've already got the Black Technology you have as a Whispered. And we're tired of you meeting with Mithril guys on the side and doing your own thing behind our backs. We're also pretty sick of you strutting around here like a peacock."

Leonard: "But... but... I brought Chidori, didn't I?"

Gold: "Because you coerced her, you loser! She doesn't help us! She just sits in her room and cries all the time! Since we started that 'Sign up a Whispered with Amalgam and get a $25 gift certificate at one of our fine (but illegally run through the black market and mafia) business' Program, you haven't been able to get a single one to sign up of their own free will! Sagara here practically has every Whispered girl he meets clawing at his pants, but you got dissed by your own sister, you fairy! Get out of here! You're fired! Sagara, welcome aboard."

And then Leonard would hang his head and sulk. Probably kick a conveniently placed rock dejectedly as he walks out. Then he'd go from preppy, pretty boy to emo bitch. And he'd start wearing black makeup because that's what emo bishis do. And he'd probably start doing sexual favors for large and depraved men because they'd think he was really pretty and at that point, he'd want to feel loved.

Meanwhile, Sousuke would join Amalgam, get a big fat pay raise, convince Kaname to join him because she's nuts about him and bring Arbalast along, Mithril's only Lambda Driver, essentially crippling their entire force against Amalgam. So then Mithril couldn't break their sh*t anymore and Amalgam would wipe them out. Then Tessa would be unemployed but she'd still have the hots for Sousuke, so she'd join him too. And Sousuke being the total Whispered chick magnet that he is, Nami would probably be all nuts about him, even though she's a ghost. Then Amalgam would have two hot Whispered girls and one hot Whispered ghost girl (which everyone knows is like the most hardcore thing you could have around)

And they'd all build really cool stuff that only he could pilot so he'd totally take over Amalgam and with all their businesses, he'd be totally rich. And by then Hayashmizu would be in politics (though he said he wasn't going to be, we all know he's full of it) and Sousuke would totally use THOSE connections. And with his Whispered girl harem, it wouldn't be long before he took over the world.

But we all know that Sousuke didn't go that route, because he's a good guy and it's not about the money and power and chicks. It's about doing the right thing and ridding the world of evil and old ladies. So there!

I got lost some posts back there, but anyway, Sousuke is in the business for money. Since we're already this far into the topic...He even states it's his only skill, what he's always done, and what he's most comfortable in doing. When he abandoned the Hong Kong mission, he was thinking about China having a pretty good chance of getting a job. It's just his way of life. I'm not sure he'd bother joining Amalgam because since he's in Mithril and has seen what Amalgam does, I'm sure he has enough morals to not join. He doesn't seem to like them anyway. He'd never hurt his classmates, let a lone his own friends he actually trusts, Kurz, Mao, Kalinin as kind of like a fatherly figure, and maybe Tessa. He just needs enough money to survive, maybe an extra here and there for a Steyr or Glock, and the equipment to complete his already unrevealed devised plan of defeating Leonard's cloak.

I hope it's revealed how Leonard joined Amalgam, it'll disclose a lot of information.

Lookit, Sousuke taking the old lady hostage was a desparation move. He wouldn't have hurt her, but he was SCARED by Kaname: remember her evilly glowing eyes and that flamin' red aura? (BTW, Weltall - you think she's got the Kyuubi in her? Maybe that's why Analgram wants her. ^^)

He was betting that Kaname & Class would hesitate enough for him to come up with something. Unfortunately, Kaname took him out quickly.

And remember what he told Kyoko: "It doesn't matter who she's with. I will protect her."

Sousuke is what he is because of his upbringing. He was orphaned at 3, and packed off to a KGB-run assasin school until he was 8. From then, he was a child soldier. True, that's no excuse. But mark this: No one was there to teach Sousuke anything else than killing, until AFTER he left, and ended up with Mithril. At the beginning, he's closed himself off from people, a coping mechanism to protect himself, because all of his friends are dead.

Then, as the series progresses, Sousuke opens up emotionally, even to the point of having feelings for Kaname, willing to protect her.

He's not protecting Kaname because it's his job; he's protecting Kaname because he WANTS TO. BECAUSE HE LOVES HER.

Actions speak louder than words.

So, all those who are saying that Leonard is on the same level as souske - go take a hike. fudgie yourself in the ear. Take a long walk off a short pier.

Leonard is not fit to be mentioned in the same sentance as SOusuke.

(Besides, i have a suspicion that Leo also has the hots for Tessa. It'd be fitting, what with that devious mind.... and the best way to break TDD-1's captain. Take her out of the equation, and reduce her to a trembling wreck. 'course, that'd incur the wrath of TDD-1 and her crew, including a certain Duke, a former Spetsnaz officer, and an ex-Marine...)

I see the connection as when Leonard or Sousuke is involved in killing someone, they both do without remorse or scruples because both pretty much believe in what they do and would see their actions as reasonable to eliminate the opposing force.

Lads, before things get out of hand let me remind you this is a spam thread. the "points" I might have made against Sousuke are highly biased maybe untrue or absurd and insane this is a requirement for me as devils advocate to defend my client Leonard.

Ah, yes. I think I read somewhere that Japan is maybe a fourth? of the size of the United States, but has half the number of the U.S. population, so the small island thing won't work.

Leo is a mean bastard who deserves to die for stealing the heroine's first (second?) kiss. He can take his honesty and love declarations and stick em you-know-where. But for all I care, he can take Tessa. They deserve each other. A union in death, going down with TDD-1 together, in style? Then again, Tessa may be into chicks, the way she was mooning over Whispered and Kaname in episode 2 of TSR (or was it episode 1? or 3? not sure anymore) while blushing all over. Watch those hands, Tessa...

As for Kaname x Sousuke, I have a lot of thoughts on that, but this thread is dedicated to Leo spam, not KxS spam, so I'll withdraw the weaponry for today...

Well..... <_< With regards to kyoudai-ai, I think it's cousins that are acceptable to Japanese soceity. Other kinds of incest are still taboo there, IIRC, especially with siblings. I just mentioned it because there are a lot of rape/incest cases here in my part of Malaysia.

There was one case where the brother and sister were in a romantic situation, and more-or-less married (well, in deed, not law).... but then one day their onee-san came to visit, found the girl holding a baby (the end result of their extra curricular *ahem* activities), and blew the whistle on them. Now, my reasoning for the dark Leo/Tessa dominance is as follows: 1) Tessa already seems intimidated by Leonard; 2) Leo's a devious bastard, so it's safe to say that he'd subscribe to the view that "All's fair in love and war," - and mind you, Amalgram and Mithril are at war. 3) What better way to take out the genius Captain of the TDD-1 than to destroy her will and dominate her completey?

*shudders* I don't really mind incest per se, so long as both parties are consenting, but a Leo/Tessa pairing... frankly, I can only see darkness with such a pairing. (for an idea of what Goose considers acceptable incest, watch Koi Kaze.)
