...just curious what the CC manga or DVD availablility's been like in your area.
For the life of me, I've not been able to find ONE brick-and-mortar shop
where I live that's been able to stock a reliable supply of V1 and V2 DVDs.
So far I've taken to ordering them online for at least SOME hope of actually
seeing a copy in a decent amount of time. The manga's been the
same -- only now have I seen stores with a couple books' worth of
volumes 1&2 on the shelves.
Regards

I remember when I saw it back in July, seeing Rosette cry with Chrno when she as the sun was setting was upsetting, it wasn't fair at all they had to die. But I guess you could also say it was a good thing as they would not have to have lived through World War 2 (supposing they'd live that long anyway) or the great depression which would not have been good, so in a way they were released from what was to come.
According to CC manga fans on another forum (I remember this from a while ago) the ending is much better then the anime version

For one, Joshua's mental age does not revert to 12

I recently read the german publication of volume 7, which deals with the connection between Magdalene and Chrno, and why he formed the contract with Rosette. In a few months, volume 8 should be coming out...
Having spoiled things for myself by reading this thread (at least as pertains to the anime) I have to say that as much as I'd rather have a happy ending, I appreciate a story that doesn't in fact end hunky dory ever after. It's like the ending to Figure 17- there isn't really any way to change the ending, without being true to the sacrifice that the contract between Chrno and Rosette meant. It's like the ending to "Angel Links" in that way, as well.
It's really amazing, how the manga market has taken off in Germany over
the last few years. For the longest time, the only source of manga besides
some specialty stores dealing with japanese imports was the american comic
publishers (Viz, basically) Now, it's not that uncommon for a series to be published in Germany before the US. Another plus, almost all of the german releases are right-to-left. They aren't as prone to "tweaking" the language to
"clean" things up either. It's really important for those fans who buy anime and manga for the "japanese" flavor of the product, to tell the producer so.

I just picked this up on DVD, and I absoultely love it. It'll be a close second to my FMP addiction, I can tell. Chibi-Chrono is the cutest thing I have ever seen. Just adorable. In fact, he's my new desktop background. Sorry, Sousuke!
To quote my six-year-old the first time he saw Fumoffu - "Wow! A giant hamster with a machine gun! Super cool!"

Sad as that is. Lol.Circle wrote:Chibi-Chrono = Chrono in normal mode right?
That's probably what she's talking about.
@Tyler yeah the ending is far from happy but I also think it's a good one considering the theme and plot of the manga. And German publishers are amazing, like how with Berserk (my favorite example) Dark Horse is at vol 8 or something, while Planet Manga is past 27 already. Hooray for German publishers.

I have to ask - did anyone but me cry at the end? I watched it in both languages and cried both times. It was a beautiful ending, but wreaked havoc on my poor old eyes. Can't wait to read the Manga. It's on back order from Right Stuf.

Not like the usual.. "it's ok if I die bla bla bla" crap... that part in the scene was the greatest yet sadest
it was one of those scenes that reminded me of
Rurouni Kenshin OVA and tsukihime (ending) both were sad....
IT'S TRUE THAT WE HAVEN'T SEEN EACH OTHER IN A LONG TIME. BUT YOU ACTUALLY SAID " DO I KNOW YOU? ". IT ALMOST MADE ME CRY ~SIGH~

Yep, it's very simply because of her strong wish to live that makes this so sad. It's the sadest ending, IMO, I've seen in anime.
Compared to other sad series (with ecs spoilers):
Kenshin OAVs are sad but [ecs]she had a purpose in sacrificing her life (for him). So at least one of them lived and found happiness later on in his life. In the sequal OAV, they've at least lived a fulfilling life.[/ecs]
Tsukihime's sad but [ecs]she was a supernatural being that's lived a long time already. It'd also help if the rest of the series is better too.[/ecs] :p
For Grave of the Fireflies, [ecs]it starts with his death and you see his spirit reuniting with his sister so that eases some of the sadness.[/ecs]
As for Saikano... [ecs]the whole series was sad or tries too hard to be sad. So by the ending for me, it was just pitiful. I was like, com'on, if it's so painful, just end the your miserable existence already. No love from me.[/ecs]
Now and Then, Here and There is pretty sad too... [ecs]little kids dying from the horrors of war depicted in a very heart wrenching way. But the main character survives. It's a bittersweet ending.[/ecs]
But ya, as for Rosette; she is the main character, she lived only 16 years, she doesn't want to die, her death didn't save anyone (quite opposite), she had lots of great memories and lots more to live for but she'll never get the chance.
