The next novel

Post by Jae »

Ok, so I finally got around to picking up the Dec and Jan issues of DM, and it appears I was wrong in assuming the Mardukas story was another short story one back in Nov.

We've now got 3 chapters of a Mardukas perspective story here, and it appears to be the next novel? Scans coming soon, in the existing scans thread. Convo+speculation+acutal facts here...

edit- adding that I said 'Mardukas perspective' for a reason- the story involves young Tessa ;)
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

They're up now, but it's better not to ask.

ooo...tessa's mom and dad...they look a ton like her.

This is curious. While it looks like a lot of the same characters appear, Tessa definately has grown for the january volume...

I wonder...Tessa looks even cuter as her younger self...very feisty.

Mardukas and Tessa are portrayed as having a kind of father-daughter relationship in the episode of fumoffu where she visits jindai high school... I suppose the origin of that is build into these novels.

It would also be an excellent oppertunity for Gatoh to incorporate the crooked captain of the pacific chrysalis (he _has_ to have a military background), as well as sailor, the captain of the american sub...

Leo isn't within any pictures at all - you'd expect that if Mardukas was chatting a lot with Tessas parents, he's likely told of him, too. Mardukas reqruitment into mithril would absolutely have to be within this novel too - I also expect bunny to be swimming around somewhere in the mix.

Finally, I think this novel will be based far more upon suspense...Mardukas' capacity as a tactician and seasoned strategist should come into play, so perhaps it'll be a bit crimi like...
Is it just me, or are there way too many talking decapitated heads around these days?

I know!!! I'm a sucker for bratty kids with bad attitudes...I might have to adore Tessa after all.
And I too found Leo's absence odd- the image of a happy family with one kid not worth adding in the illustration? Or he's not around or not playing a part in the story atm, or just isn't important to Mardukas if this is all being told via his POV...
And I'm currently confused by the visual cues given with Tessa's dad. He's almost creepy looking in some pics.

I'm wondering if this volume is a set up to lead into the current status and future actions of Mithril/Tessa/Leo, giving us important back info before moving into the next story stage...I have to imagine the military-bent fans should enjoy the military-man angle :)

I'm a little confused about tessas dad too...there's one of those pictures where he doesn't look like he does in the rest - he has a scumbag-kinda grin and a smooth facade... but then, his face looks so different that I'm not convinced it's actually him.

Either way, Leo is supposed to be able to solve those einstein equations when he's what, 5?...tessa looks like she could be 5 in one of those pictures, and leo wouldn't learn that stuff if he was musing about at his parents house like a normal kid...

I'm thinking leo is probably already a part of mithril research at the point where Madukas meets Tessas dad, and that Tessa was purposely withheld from being tested for being a whispered...afterall, what parent would want to give up both his children like that?

Either way, I'm confident the information Tessas father (from this point onwards, let's just call him pops or something) has recieved on the note he crumbles is likely related to his children...

Oh yeah, and thanks a bunch for uploading those scans!

Many thanks, Jae. :-D

If anyone asks, the title seems to be "The birth of the Tuatha de Danaan". I just hope this isn't about Mardukas' life flashing before his eyes just before he bites the big one. Hey - it could happen. :?

Word. I thought it was a different guy at first, but now I'm thinking that it's probably one heckuva personality change.

Agreed, and maybe Tessa's crayon boat drawings came out a little more detailed than Papa Testarossa expected.

In the Jan. 2006 4-man group shot, we see (right to left) Mardukas, probably Tessa's father, probably Sailor - at least, I hope Gatoh hasn't forgotten him - and an unfamiliar guy. Who's he?

You really think this is the next long novel? I'd hope this doesn't go on too long. There's only supposed to be two or three more long novels. While it's nice to see Tessa's background, I wouldn't want to read an entire novel on it. Hell, Sousuke's background was covered in two months and we haven't even touched Kaname's yet. Doesn't it seem strange that the families of all the Whispered are in high military or political positions and that they were all born on the same day? Kinda makes you wonder how deep the story with Kaname's father really runs.

I wouldn't be worried. It's not as if a long novel that provides background information is bad. It revolves around a lot of the same characters, save for Kaname and Sousuke but...well, it's evident that we're not going to hear about the two of them in anything but short-stories for a while, and Sousuke has already been given an entire long novel of his own...

This choice makes sense, and besides, the theme is interesting, wouldn't you agree?

Also, that whole 'not more than 3-4 novels' left...that's silly...they're not written yet...who knows how they'll turn out...

It would seem strange if all the Whispered in the world did have that kind of a family background, but even if they did how would that matter? They would be from different countries with different militaries and politics. Look at Kaname's dad, it doesn't seem he has such an important position, and Tessa's father was only a captain of a sub if you look at their positions with a holistic point of view.

There should be mention of Leonard because it has been said in the novel that when their parents died, Tessa cried in her brother's arms or something. I believe after that Mithril took them in probably with some directives by Borda. The 2 Whispereds took their education and duties, then the void in the timeline appears when Leonard leaves on his own accord.

This probably is Tessa with Mithril already, with her hair in braids but not with the blue bow she'll wear later on.

No, not three or four. Two or three. At least that's what Gatoh said his plan was at the end of one of the previous novels. He might change it. I just hope this doesn't count as one of the two or three remaining. In fact, I think after BOMF, we might be down to one or two. And at this pace, I don't see the entire FMP story being wrapped up in one more novel.

Besides, since when have background stories ever been the focus of the main novels? They've always been set to the side stories.

That may be true. But the coincidence still seems a little too suspicious to me.
