Yea, decided not to get it cuz they do talk a lot in Stars... so I'll be clueless more than half the time. Will wait for the fansub.

I got around to watching it, and well... its ok.

They start to jump around time-wise and there is alot of the previous BOTS/COTS clips. of course the big spoiler (like if you didn't see it coming) is in english at the end O_O.

There is a section in the end where they do a "what they're up to' sorta thing about each character. since i can't read Japanese, I can't be sure, and there was no next volume preview. :(

anyway, i look forward to theh sub since it is a talker. Especially this one.

Oh yeah, there are a few new classes of vessles. ;)

Dam anubu's the only fan sub I could find and it's choppy as hell stupid morons can't encode it right and the quality sucks compared to the raw version which works perfectly fine. I sure hope someone else releases it I tried all the newest xvid codecs and a few other players and still didn't fix the problem.

Watched the ANBU release. It played fine on VLC 0.8.1. I reinstalled 0.8.1 cuz 0.8.2 doesn't support DTS.

Spoiler synopsis: [ecs]Basically, Jinto's homeworld wants to keep its independence. That of course, is unacceptable to the Ahb. So to please both sides, Jinto signs an agreement as the Count of Martine to stay away from the planet and not live in the system and Martine will agree to be part of the Empire. So Martine keeps its independence since in reality, the Count isn't there to govern it. Jinto's other choice would be to throw his title away and seek asylum on Martine, but another Count would be chosen by the Ahb and an space-to-surface attack on Martine is likely. So Jinto chooses Lafiel and peace over returning to his beloved home. The epilogue talks about their new posts, returning to the Imperial Navy.[/ecs]

Thoughts: I'm sad... not that cuz the story is sad, well it is sad, but I'm sad cuz it's 2 episodes and that seemed to be it. And there was no Spoor. :( Was that the end of the Banner of the Stars novel series? Is there more to the story afterwards? The transmissions between the "dead" ships during the exercise is pretty funny. :)

Edit: ah wait, there's another volume coming out in September. :-D

Per animeondvd.com it seems tokyopop have picked up quite a few novel lisences for US release, including the Seikei books :)

(from an interview with a TP editor, not yet official news I guess, but on the forum there a TP rep more or less confirmed the info)
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

It made the news on a few forums I visit, but all I found was on the TokyoPop forums going about Kara Stambach (one of their junior editors) mentioning "Seikai trilogy."
So check out some of our titles. We've got something for everyone's tastes: Slayers, Gundam SEED, Love Hina, Gravitation, Devil May Cry, The Seikai Trilogy, etc. etc.
As far as I remember, "Seikai Trilogy" is the manga version of the anime that they've already released. The one where they somehow mixed up Sobash as a woman.

Havnt found any news that they licensed the actual novels themselves. Actually, many of the titles mentioned are the ones they've had licenses for for quite awhile.

I've got my hopes up that they DIDNT get the license... (this IS TokyoPop we're talking about... the bunch that referred to a Zion mobile suit as an OZ mobile suit in their Gundam 0083 release... whiskey tango foxtrot.)
Remember kids, trying to start Armageddon is dangerous. Do not try it at home.

This was the article:

Editor Spotlight of the Month:

I'm Kara Stambach, Junior Editor for TOKYOPOP's Manga Novels.

SWF, nonsmoker, 26

I like epic movies, boys' love manga, cats, homemade macaroni and cheese, and long walks in the woods. (Best place to dump the bodies.) My favorite color is blue. I rock out to '80s pop in the shower. In my spare time, I ballroom dance, saber fence, and write fanfiction (as well as original material).

Chapter and Verse

I was born on a small farm in the country of Florin. (No, just kidding. I was actually born in a little hospital in Essex, Maryland.) I was raised by a pack of wolves—and by that I mean my mother and Nana. Every Saturday, Nana would take me to the library. I was hooked on phonics as a youngling and never quite kicked the habit. I started reading by the age of three. At ten, I wrote poetry and put on my own sketches. In high school and college, I wrote novels and performed in plays. (I encourage everyone to experiment with thespianism at least once.) And just last year, some of my short stories were published. So, I always knew I'd be a writer and an editor.

Otaku Oschmaku

I'd like to blame Sailor Moon. That baton-twirling, sparklingly transforming, dumpling-haired shojo heroine obsessed me. I ended up renting all 200 episodes, 3 movies, and the Christmas special. Not so much because I was a fan of melodrama—although, yes, I cried when Mamoru gave Usagi that engagement ring at the airport—but because I've always loved mythology and social anthropology. I discovered that anime is chock-full of fascinating universal myths and unique expressions of Japanese culture.

Nose to the Grindstone

I originally majored in film and screenwriting at Emerson Performing Arts College in Boston, Massachusetts. I thought it would be nice to direct American animation features, maybe work for Disney. But then I got hooked on Japanese anime. (Sailor Moon was my gateway fandom.) I studied abroad for six months in Europe, and everywhere I went, I saw Sailor Moon and Ranma 1/2 and Gundam Wing manga. By the time I'd returned home, Japanese animation had hit big, and I knew I wanted to be part of the revolution.

I transferred to University of Maryland at College Park, where I designed my own major: "New Mythologies in Trans-Cultural Filmmaking." (This degree qualifies me not only to work at McDonald's, but to be a manager.) So, basically, I studied three subjects: film, mythology, and Japanese language.

There was much toil and suffering, as I worked three jobs and held down three majors (and joined the ballroom dancing club, competed on the fencing team, and volunteered at the Defenders of Animal Rights non-kill shelter). Afterward, I got my master's degree in Fiction Writing at Johns Hopkins University. Then I applied for the position as TOKYOPOP's Novels Editor via this website, and many phone interviews later (in which I managed to convince the editorial team that I don't eat babies and that I do know what I'm talking about) I got the job. I moved from Baltimore to Los Angeles (that was a fun four-day drive with two cats, let me tell you!) and I've been happily working here for the past six months.

Professional Wordsmith

From early in the morning until late into the night, I research, propose, schedule, read, revise, rewrite, copy edit, summarize, and promote my titles. I work on the weekends, if necessary. I do whatever it takes to make the verbs active, the sentences lean, and the paragraphs seamlessly sutured together.

I don't just polish raw translations. I whip and beat the lines into shape so that the American reader, whether they're an otaku or not, gets an engaging story. (For the anime and manga aficionado, our Manga Novels provide interesting backstory and character insight for some of their already favorite titles. But to the n00b, Manga Novels are also just darn good reads!) Creating literature should be hard. Adapting novels into English while maintaining the integrity of the original work should be difficult. But the finished product? That should be easy to read.

So check out some of our titles. We've got something for everyone's tastes: Slayers, Gundam SEED, Love Hina, Gravitation, Devil May Cry, The Seikai Trilogy, etc. etc. Drop me a line and let me know what you think (karas@tokyopop.com). Keep an eye out for our Pop Fiction line and, hopefully in the future, our Original Fiction line!

Happy reading!

Yoroshiku onegai shimasu!

I read the interview in question and felt iffy, thinking the reference meant the manga, not the novels.

So I did check in the animeondvd forum before posting this- in the relevant thread the TP rep, Greenlily, made it clear she, at least, believes the editor means the novels (scroll a bit).
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

*shrugs* Not holding my breath. I was hoping someone else would get the license actually... Oh well. Now Im just hoping they get a decent translation done if they did get it... I sooo wanted to go on a rampage after reading through a few of their other translations (esp. the 0083 on... how did Wing get mixed up in there... repeatedly)

It depends on which TP employees actually do the work- the translation and editing aren't done as company decisons.

I'm not thrilled with many TP projects, however I found the translation of the Slayers novels pretty good (although that title is being dumped on, yet again, by an american lisencer  )
Some of their translation decisions stink. But sometimes even having a stink-ass translation beats having none.
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

Depends on how trashy the translation is I suppose. I generally have a high degree of tolerance on these things, but rest assured if I somehow see stuff from other books/series/anythingotherthanseikaiitself in there (like god forbit they write off the Human Union as Oz), I am going to go ballistic
