Tau... I think it was you who mentiond it some time ago. The RAF (rote arme fraction, or in what ever way you're supposed to write it) used C4 with copper atatched to it. This was used to destroy armored vehicles and was remote detonated.
I thought it worked with the same principle as the HEAT rounds.

Sounds like a poor man's anti-tank device. Well HEAT rounds CAN destroy an armored vehicle (hence the name "High Explosive Anti-Tank"), just that a SABOT does it more effeciently. Modern day Anti-tank weapons are mostly missiles such as the TOW, HOT or MILAN missiles. Of course, some still rely on shells (like the Carl Gustav).

I don't now the spec of it. But I thought it could cut a armored car in two. The advantage of this methode is the large amount of copper that can be used.

If I'm not mistaken, a device like that was used to assasinate a German businessman in the late (or mid) 1980s. I forgot his name, but he owned I bank I believe. I'll have to check old news clippings for it.

I saw something about that on Discovery. The assasin used a infrared sensor as a trigger for the device, which was a about, what 10 pounds of TNT behind a copper plate. Killed the target and no one else, it seems.

Well, this question is related to the mecha, in a way... who did the mecha designs for the series? I'd like to worship his awesomeness. :-D

Great, someone finally asks a question on the mecha and I am ill-equipped to answer.

EDIT: I looked it up abit, the mechas were designed by Ebikawa Kanetake and Ihara Toshiaki.

Ebikawa Kanetake and Ihara Toshiaki, eh? Thankies. :-D

Oh, and another question: how tall exactly is the Shadow? I'm really getting obsessed with it for the past few days... unfortunately, no sites have any specs on it. The site where I got all my M9 Gernsback info on has disappeared. :?

From the foot to the tip of the head(not horn, nor hood). Yeah. :-D

I think its tall as M-9 without its horn but that horn adds more some height to it making it little taller than M-9.

Just going back to the original question the construction of ASes for a second....

This is what I know about the M9 and ARX-7:
I can confirm that while the external armor plating is composite material, the synthetic muscle fibers provide a lot of the structural support, as well as fulfilling motor functions.

For the 2nd generation ASes like the M6 and Rk-92, I believe their construction is simpler than the newer ones. Because they only use the muscle packages for fine motor control while using standard hydraulics and motors for larger movement, the construction material is probably more conventional. Maybe titanium alloy or something.

I have to agree, based on what little I know. In the novel Continuing On My Own, it is stated that palladium reactors are not like normal cold fusion reactors (which don't actually exist yet, btw) in that they require little maintanance. Tessa says that the palladium reactor on the TDD-1 can actually "run out of juice."

Also, even though the M9's have cold reactors, the energy is not infinite. It is said several times through the novel that the AS cannot supply power to everything for sustained periods of time, like having ECS and ECM on at the same time. And then there is the issue of space, as you said.

But this is Black Technology, so who knows?
