Im a bit confused...(about japanese characters' names)

Hi. Im A New member ^^ and I’m in love with FMP! Even though I’ve only seen the first 3 episodes. However, something really confuses me.

As most of you know, In Japan your family name comes first and then your First name. Friends, Family, and people you meet would call you by your first name, while mean Gym teachers nad people you don’t like would call you by your last name.
My question is this: What is Kaname/ Chidori’s and Sosuke’s/ Sagara’s FIRST name?

My fansubs (soon to be extinct) ay their first are Chidori and Sagara, and I know some Japanese and can understand that their friends call them Chidori and Sagara. However, the Newtype USA Magna calls them Kaname and Souske (and a grouchy PE couch calls him Sousuke)

So All I want to know is, what are their REAL first names?

You don't have to dislike someone to call them by their last names. Even in China, people call others by the family name. If you watch other anime series, you'll notice that they call each others by last name as well and they don't hate each others.

I could be wrong, but isn't it the other way around?

I mean japanese say Sagara Sousuke san.
So Sagara is the family name and Sousuke is the first name.

And Chidori Kaname san.
Chidori is the family name and Kaname is the first name.

If I'm wrong then sorry, and you can punish me.

As I know, Sagara and Kaname are they're respective surnames while Sousuke and Chidori are their first names. Oh wait.. *ish confused from all the other alternative proposed by these people* waaa... But I know this is the right one.. somebody confirm more of this bloody mess.. -_-;

Sagara = Family Name

Sousuke = Given Name

The family name is ALWAYS mentioned first by Japanese and Chinese naming rules....

It's a tad confusing in this show, because all chara names are listed according to where they are from. IE< most of the characters names are listed western style. But the japanese characters are listed eastern style.

Like others said, it's most common to call a classmate or someone with whom you have only a casual relationship (by curcumstance) by their family name. Kaname called Sousuke 'Sagara' in the beginning of the anime, but after ep 7, she starts to call him 'Sousuke' showing she feels comfortable with him to call him by his first.

However Sousuke is very formal and always calls everyone else by their family names (or rank)- the only exception I can currently think of is Kurtz.

Well, all of the info we have was pretty much as it would be in Mithril's dossiers and stuff, so...if they didn't know it, we don't know it.
Like...Gaulun's info. Or the new enemy ASs' info.

He *must* have had given and family names, but...does it even matter whatever they were ?

In China, Japan and Korea, you're only allowed to call someone by his/her given name when you become familiar with him...
