Random thought about Amalgam.
Well, I was in class and started thinking about people in Amalgam, all the Mr. Silver and Mr. Gold, so far I would guess people assume that Mr. Gold is the leader, (and he probably is) but maybe theres one more higher up, what about a Mr (or Ms/Mrs.) Mercury? Amalgam is Mercury mixed with certain minerals, but the only constant metal IS Mercury, otherwise, Amalgam could be with gold, silver, etc.
Just thinking maybe a "Mercury" could be the big leader.
Might be kinda hard to understand, if it is, sorry :/
Theres nothing right now to support this idea, besides what Amalgam is made of, this is just me being bored in class and wondering.

Little correction Amalgam isn't mixed with "minerals" but with metals it's an alloy.
I wouldn't think it's like that .. mercury "polutes" the Gold or Silver
if any imho mercury would be the logistics clerk or an accountant.

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

Eh, yeah, sorry bout that, it is alloys, just said mineral for better lack of words, (that and I didn't want to be seen on the internet by my teacher, so I was rushing it).
My view was basically, Mercury is the primary part, you HAVE to have that to make Amalgam, while the other part can be other alloys.
But you may be right, most likely, you are, like I said, I was in class, and bored as heck, the thought just crossed my mind.

The quantity of Mercury in Amalgam is miniscule when compared to the other ingredients. So maybe Mr. Mercury is the Janitor?

Enough to drive one insane....
I just think Amalgam is like Mithril, Both paramilitary organisations with a basic hiearchy.
Lets assume you are right and Mercury is a "shared" boss, this would make the organisation very flat and why would there be a need of a Gold above Silver? Since Mr/Ms Mercury would relay the orders directly to Silver.

As they say, everyone answers to someone. Whos to say that Mercury couldn't relay orders to Gold, and then Gold to Silver, Military wise, the Seargants tell Squad Leaders to issue commands to their Squad, same example here.
Take it with a grain of salt though, I'm not trying to stir up a huge argument.

The story has already stated that Leonard is Mr. Silver, and that he reports to Mr. Gold. I'm sure if there were a Mr. Mercury, we would have heard about it by now.

Seeing as we are on the topic of Mr. Gold and speculation on Amalgam, I figured I'd throw some of my thoughts out that were brought to the surface while reading this discussion. I appologize if this has been discussed in detail elsewhere (however, I did not see a topic on it).
Now my question is, who is Mr. Gold? I realize he hasn't been revealed, so clearly none of us can know, but I have to wonder if it is some random guy, or a person we might know, or at least, have heard mentioned at some point in the novels. I would probably bet on a random guy yet to be introduced, however something always makes me consider the possibilty of the latter--that it may be someone already introduced to us. This could refer to a well known character, or a character mentioned in passing.
It just doesn't seem like something Gatoh would do, to merely have Sousuke come upon this Mr. Gold while going after Amalgam, and be forced to take him out in a sudden confrentation. To me as a viewer, the defeat of such a man would have little impact on my perception and my interest of the storyline. Mr. Gold must be important obviously, as he is the assumed head of Mithril's most dangerous enemy organization, so thus his involvement and leadership with Amalgam and subsequent fate should be highly consequential to the FMP story. And that is why my "Random guy yet to be introduced" theory nags at me. Because MR.Gold is important, his death should be important, and for that to be the case, he must be one of two things:
1-Either someone we know, or someone we know enough of at least for his identity and defeat to be consequential or
2-His secret identity must be revealed soon--a real name given to a real face so that we might come to know him before he is eventually (and inevitably) offed. And if this is the case...then how long are these novels going to run for, because I was under the assumption that the climax was drawing ever near, and yet to my knowlegde, still no word on Mr.Gold.
Anyone have any thoughts or theories on the matter?

I've no clue Gunner, I'd like to think it's someone we know, and it would be some huge shocker, but I can't really think of anyone that it could be, just a wierd thought, what ever happened to Tessa's father? Is he still alive or is he dead? (I don't remember) Maybe he joined Leonard? I don't know.
I've already forgotten COMO, I rushed through it to fast, I need to go back and read it again.
(However, I could probably freakin recite half of ODBD, I printed both books and I read em at school when I'm bored, I've read the whole thing about 7 times now. -.-;)

It would be a lame move to introduce a new character near story completion.
If I had to speculate I say it could be Bunny.

But wouldn't that make his codename "Chocolate" (Easter Bunny)?
makes sense:
Chocolate => cavities => fillings => Amalgam

I could vote for Bunny too. I had thought about it while musing on the subject. It would make sense. Bunny is someone whom we've never met, whose past is shrouded in mystery, yet enough information has been cast about to make him significant should he appear. Plus he has insider information about the Arbalest and an emotional and personal history with Mithril and Tessa in particular. Thus, his identity as a possible Mr. Gold would have the emotional impact, while at the same time, fleshing out the mysteries surrounding his character, past and "death". This is of course going by the theory that he is Mr. Gold, and thus his death is placed in quotation.
Of course, we could also throw out there more obscure names, like Tessa's father (as suggested above), or another person related in some personal way to one or more of the characters. On the other hand, we could also throw out a very distinct name such as the much debated Kalinin. Yet as many have mentioned, Kalinin just seems too obvious. Regardless, sometimes the most obvious candidate becomes the least expected for that very reason.
However, I'd like to see Bunny as Mr.Gold, just because I can see that being played out quite well, and as said earlier: flesh out a name and person who has remained elusive yet seemingly vital throughout the extent of the series.

Considering that his death is shrouded in mystery. It would be an interesting twist.
Also, considering how farther along Amalgam is with LD technology... Bunny's specialty...... I smell a turn coat.
But, what may have made him turn to the dark side? (assuming Amalgam is the dark side)
$$$$$?
(wo)men?
Paid vacation?
Comprehensive health benefits?
Possibility of carrer advancement?
Blackmail?
A visit from "Little Tony" with "an offer he can't refuse?"

Of course, then we have another 17 year old kid running around with weapons, power, and an entire organization that could wipe out countries. And that's what the world needs: more angsty, adolescent punks pressing the smite button. Are there no decent adults with genius whispered-minds? Come to think of it, there has been absolutely no references to any whispereds over the age of teen. Do they go crazy and commit suicide by that point? Do they lose their knowledge? Or was this whispered power caused by some stimulus--an event which came about around seventeen years ago that would mean any whispered powers would have been born during that time and thus no one would have lived long enough yet to be an adult. In that case... what was the event? Or if not an event, then when, why, and how did whispered power come about? Clearly we haven't been informed so all we can do is speculate...

The "stimulus" theory seems the most likely to me, since we already know that three Whispered (Kaname, Tessa and Leonard - assuming that he's her twin brother) were born on a particular Christmas Eve - or was that Christmas Day? We don't know Nami's and Bunny's birthdays, although if we're talking about cosmic events, I wouldn't be surprised if they all shared the same birthday. We don't know much else, though.
I, too, wonder about Mr. Gold. He'd better be someone we know... (and I'm calling outsiders - Goldberry, the TDD-1's medical officer! You know it's true. )
