I feel this is a mistake. Does he deserve death?, sure he does.
But this could have been a chance for Iraq to show that they have changed.

The death penalty is something from the old policy something fitting for a dictatorship.
The old government is gone, reasons enough not to pick the death penalty but to let him rot in a Baghdad prison cell for the rest of his life.

I don't know.... What if he get loose once again. Maybe rescued or realesed by a late regime. Let them decide what to do with him. On the other hand you have a point.

Meh, at least he got the benefit of a trial and appeal, and didn't just "disappear" one day, never to be heard from again.

executing Saddam will only make him a martyr.... a few days later the violience will exelate to unseen levels.

besides he probably isnt spiritual prepared to toss the salad, so throw him in jail with a roomate named Bubba.

Meh... personally... sheesh, hanging. How unimaginative. If you're going to execute someone, do it right... like how the Limeys used to execute people charged with treason. Or how the old Sovs did in Oleg Penkovsky (tied him to something with piano wire, then cremated alive)
