"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

Veering back to the topic...sort of...
I think it is interesting to see how the character designs evolved over the three seasons of the anime. Personally, I prefer the artwork after the series moved to Kyoto.
I guess it is what you are used to, but I also prefer the way the characters look in Fumofu and TSR to the manga and novel versions. Not that those aren't great (he adds hastily)

The characters look the most mature in the first series (even though the part where Chidori is clutching her temples in the forest saying that Sousuke will lose, one of her eyes is bigger than the other *hehe*).
The Fumoffu gave them a more 'chibi' look, sort of a roundish adaptation, with much more vibrant color. This actually seemed very fitting of the series since it too was so light-hearted and vibrant. The one scene in the hallway following behind "Tessa's father" ;) they look really disproportionate form the rafter's view. I giggle very much at that scene.
And then TSR kind of tried to merge the two. Except, I think that they look a little more elongated in traits and the color is toned down again, but not exceptionally so that they return to the caliber of the first series.
And methinks I might have seen Sousuke's scar switches sides ^_~
Not that I can do any better, mind you. I just notice these things ^.^
Overall Japanese animation is always fantastic, I can't get my head around how they can draw so many different angles of the same character doing so many poses for a scene. It's amazing and I'd love to watch them bring a production together.

It is kind of interesting to see how in TSR they shift the character style, lighting and so forth when going between the scenes at school and the darker stuff. I think a good contrast is the subtle differences between the way Kana looks in the school scenes versus how she looks during her rooftop fracas.
It would be neat to see how things evolve if they animate more of the storyline and things get quite a bit darker. Let's hope that happens
