I don't know if creating conflicts in order to test weaponry is fully evil. Of course, it is difficult to see why Amalgam can't use comflicts that already exists... Maybe it is something to do with creating optimal circumstances and optimizing tests. Kind like while testing drugs some people have potentially effective drug and some don't.
Anyway, can't see why Amalgam couldn't have some good reason to do what they do.

(English is not my native language, so my writings are pretty crappy. Try to live with it.)
FMP doesn't seem to really be a good vs evil story to me
thats why I like it, it's more realistic
In the real world, there is usually no clear definition of good or evil. For example, some people would view America's actions in iraq as good while others would view them as evil. There are many aspects to consider and no single answer. (Note that I'm only saying that there are different opinions on the matter of Iraq, I'm not taking a side and I'm not trying to start a political debate in this thread)
My point is that FMP is more realistic than other anime because I don't think you can look at amalgam as pure evil the way you might look at akatsuki in Naruto as pure evil.
Gauron was a madman and Gates was a madman, but they were individuals. On the Mithril side, we have Tessa representing Mithril and she is largely good natured. My instincts tell me that no large private defense agency like Mithril is going to have any angelic purpose. It is probably fraught with corruption, just as one can expect from a capitalist enterprise devoid of responsibility to any national government. But it is highly plausible that Tessa, being a good person at heart, checks that corruption within her own little corner of Mithril by making those little decisions that count. Anyway, that would be my theory.

Not being a big fan of moral relativism, I am going to go out on a limb and say that the folks at Mithril are the good guys. Based on what we have seen so far Mithril fights against things that are pretty generally associated with the forces of rottenness.
As for their methods being questionable, throughout history the good guys have had to get down and dirty with the bad guys to prevail. Unfortunately, that fact of life is probably not going to change in our lifetimes, and wishing that things were different don't make it so.

I think that basically mithrils intentions are good and not evil. like rescuing civilians (first ep TSR), destroying drug labs or stopping nuclear weapon trades (first season somewhere in the middle ).
Only their methods of fighting "evildoers" are maybe questionable. perhaps that's the reason why they are a secret organisation because mithril does the dirty work which the for example the UN can't do to not get their hands dirty.

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

On a good day, a Tomahawk can fly into the door of a two-car garage at the distance of several hundred miles. And that can ruin your whole day.

They're mercenaries. Questionable activity is to be expected. As a main point, however, I'd have to say that the company and the intentions of Lord Malory are neutral. The ham was just looking to make money, regardless of the "mission statement" of the company, just like Amalgam. The methods and policies differ, but both companies are, at heart, on the same side.
"Nudge, nudge, wink, wink... Tessa is a sex kitten." - My friend Kyle
"I would've been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence!" - Sarge Stacker, Halo: CE
"Are you running out of bullets? Aw that's too bad. Some of your freinds cried and begged for their lives, but you... You did well, soldier." - You know who said this!

id say there is no such thing as "good" or "bad." everyone fights for their goals. Mithril's goals coincide with what society sees as "right," and since they are a mercenary-military group, they will use all means to achieve their goals. its impossible to win everything; for everything gained something needs to be discarded, and for them there is no room for error.
then theres also money. money has a unique power: it can pervert any living human it comes into contact with.
