.... Hmm, good idea :D

BUT what I meant is that in all those animes I've watched, I almost haven't seen a girl fanservice, and I'm wondering why... I mean, yeah, sometimes those guys walk shirtless, but c'mon... Than I thought that if guys like girls being "intimate" with each other, than perhaps the producers, if they wanted to add any girl fanservice, would put yaoi-oriented-scenes between boys?.. Which doesn't really make sense - because I don't think it is what "girl fanservice" means...

Anyone cares to explain this to me?..

(Oh, and sorry if I started off topic - but it still is about fanservice, right? :D)

...just cuz I've always wondered what constitutes Female Fan Service"

Personally, I have a few female friends who are into anime/manga/japan culture/etc,
and I have to say the idea of FFS ranges from the basic "boytoy to drool over"
to fullblown hardcore yaoi action. So post your thoughts here ppl, male and female.
What do you think constitutes FFS, or what's your idea(l) of FFS?

The first time I heard the term "Female Fan Service" was in Yu-Gi-Oh The Abridged Series and on that (which was by far the funniest abridged series ever) it insinuated something sexual. I'm still slightly confused :? because I'm not sure if that was a joke or what it really means.

When we are wandering in the world of FFS and asking what it is, I would like to ask what is usual male fanservice. Girls with big boobs? Girls wearing clothes who show more than cover? Nakedness? Adult situations or at least situations who look like adult situations?

I'd like to say all of them, and point out that fan service can not be labelled as male or female FS, specially when we are speaking about het. It takes to to tango... With yaoi(ness) or yuri(ness) it may be more related to watcher's gender.

Now when I think of it, I don't remember one yuri-oriented scene :o (Ok, in some hentai, but I doubt it counts here ) Instead I can recall some yaoiness (in Bleach for example, and Gravitation is one gigantic FFS... thing).

Maybe we catch and/or remember only those situations we liked... Personally I have always thought that there is more fan service to girls than boys. There is super hot man without shirts, long haired cool looking men, some random yaoiness, great positions and so on. Much better than panties and short skirts <3

Surely it also depents on genre... Of course when average watcher is a teenage boy, there is much more fanservice to boys than girls.

Ok, now I remembered some yuri-oriented stuff. In Bleach that red head girl and Orihime, but it is kind of lame one.

...maybe I made some sense.

now it is time to consult the laws of anime
#34- Law of Probable Attire- Clothing in anime follows certain predictable
guidelines: Female characters wear as little clothing as possible, regardless of
whether it is socially or meteorologically appropriate. Any female with an excessive
amount of clothing will invariably have her clothes ripped to shreds or torn off
somehow. If there is no opportunity to tear off aforementioned female’s clothes,
then she will inexplicably take a shower for no apparent reason (also known as the
Gratuitous Shower Scene). Whenever there is a headwind, Male characters invariably
wear long cloaks that don’t hamper movement and billow out dramatically behind them.
First Corollary (Cryo-Adaptability)- All anime characters are resistant to
extremely cold temperatures, and do not need to wear heavy or warm clothing in snow.
Second Corollary (Indecent Invulnerability)- Bikinis render the wearer
invulnerable to any form of damage.
*Third Corollary (Probable Attire permanence)- The clothing on the hero is
indestructible. Their capes, robes, (and if they are girls,) skirts, dresses, bows,
or any loose clothing will just flap when they are in the middle of a fire or ice
attack... Unless it's a hentai. It is believed that the clothes are made out of
Anime Character hair. (re. Laws 32 & 48)

I wish girls would accept my long hair as female fan service, too :-D

:-o

Uuuuh... you know guys, it's not ME who created this topic ( :-o :-o :-o ) So I'm kind of surprised to see my nick under "Author" column  ... BUT I have started the discussion, that's true...

ANYWAY! Why I started bragging about girl fanservice in the first place?.. Because I experience hardly any. In 80% series I've watched there is typical MALE fan service: girls with proud chests, panty-shots, mini-skirts, outfits which are more symbolic than actual attire... And all those gags: guy falling straight into girl's chest, female-crew in one bathroom etc (I think you get the idea). In most cases big breasts and poor outfits are not important in plot in any way.

And girl fan service in those series?.. Mostly if I make myself think "Oh yes, that's a bonus from the producers!", but it's usually when someone's shirt is being ripped during a fight (in example: Dragon Ball). Someone mentioned about shirt-less guys with long hair and pretty faces... But c'mon! I've seen a shirtless guy like 3-4 times, and long hair & pretty faces?.. You guys also have it - kawaii ladies, cat-girls etc! In EVERY series if there is a bishie guy, the MUST be at least ONE bishie girl!

What I WOULD LIKE to see? Shirtless guys, yes. But I want them walk shirtless deliberately - when they exit the shower etc. I want GIRLS taking advantage of those guys, and not the other way round (OR boys seducing girl, and girls not being so... passive in the whole action. I liked the way Faye Valentine behaved towards guys in Cowboy Bepop). ...

Hmm, yeah, I can't come up with many ideas now... However, what I mean is that most people (in my place anyway) think of girl fanservice as "yaoi oriented scenes", which is not f*cking true! I hate this stereotype of my country is that anime girl fan is automatically yaoi fan

... Well, yeah, I talked a lot and I'm not really sure if I made any sense... And you guys are probably bored now... SOOO if it really doesn't make any sense - just let me know

... I can't express myself :x:

I thought that Bishi / shounen ai was more aimed at the female audience.
Seems that in that genre sales are high.

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

comon most of the japanese culture focuses on making females less sensitive to sexual harassment and being treated as a sex toy.

Yup, which happens not only in anime/manga. That's... sick. I've seen this "Kelly Osbourne turning Japanese" show... and there, she worked at coffee house... The girls were made to wear French maiden outfit and massage all those guys in room upstairs...

It is indeed true that shounen ai/yaoi and even yuri is aimed for women as potential reader/watcher... But it is for people who like the genre. It's the same with mechas, shounen, magical girls etc, and I wouldn't describe it as female fanservice... It's (yaoi etc) just a genre... Whilst male fanservice, if it appears, it appears no matter the genre of the series... :?

Oh, I just want to make it clear: I have nothing against you guys or the fact that producers add the fanservice for you! All I am not happy about is that there's very little fanservice for us, girls ;)
