Blu-ray

Post by Taurec »

I know some of you have a Playstation 3 how is the BR playback on those?

I'm considering buying one primarily for bluray playback.

So how is the quality compared to standalone players?
Have you tried playing ahvcd disks (basically its a dvd 9 /5 using h.264 compression)
Any word on making ps3s region free?

Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

super sweet, razor sharp awsome but:

to get full enjoyment, you must use HDMI.

I use a component connection and TOSLink so I only get 1080i and 5.1 surround. "Liscensing limitations" of HDMI restrict 1080p and 7.1 audio to the HDMI connector exclusively.

But you will get that with anything that has an HDMI connector.

HDMI signals are only good for less than 2 meters. You can however purchase a repeater that boosts the signal to over 8 meters, but you may run into compatibility issues since HDMI is a "smart" connection that negotiates with all devices to make sure there arn't any security holes which would allow you to copy the signal.

I have had NO luck with HDMI. My cable box and TV hate each other. if I turn my cable box to standby, turning the TV on crashes the cable box. If I leave the cable box on, more often than not, turning on the TV would cause the TV to crash.

Its a garbage connector with a garbage protocol written by lawyers. (-_-)

Got hdmi covered so that's not a problem.
Sadly seems that it is not yet possible to unlock the regions.

Thanks for the info Joe.

...methinks its time to amend that old IT saying of "You know a technology's matured when the guys upstairs are not the engineers but the salesman..."
