Mission incomplete ... Guess we will have a gundam 01 soon.
Can't say I really enjoyed 00 ... still it beats watching Dragon Ball Z reruns.

Season 2 is underway. I believe 3 episodes are out. So far so good.

I know I'm late coming to this discussion, but I have been watching this series on Sci-Fi Channel. My observations:

If there is any humor in this show, I haven't seen it yet. What a dour, emo bunch. Even in the darkest times, people have a sense of humor, and overlooking this fact makes the characters seem false.

And if I have to see another Gundam Meister pause in mid-battle and have a lengthy internal dialog and/or flashback I think I'm gonna hurl. You have to wonder why the baddies don't just take them out while they are paralyzed by angsty angst. Does anyone come away from this show caring about any of the characters?

I haven't seen the original Gundam series, and since I know Gatosan was inspired by that show, I had high hopes for this one. I'm disappointed and not too impressed with 00.

I'm still watching, partially out of morbid curiosity, and because it still beats watching HSN.

THIS SHOW IS A RIP OFF OF FMP

1. Lockon is copied off of Kurz (suave long-haired European sniper)
2. Setsuna is copied off Sousuke (Middle eastern conflict background as child)
3. A woman commands a ship (the Celestial Being one) with mechs in it, and that can double as a submarine.
4. Uber-unrealistic Lambda Driver thing (though there's more of this stuff in 00, the GN drives).
5. A tough Russian commander character (Smirnov is Kalinin)
6. An extranational military organization that has superior equipment (Mithirl, Celestial Being)
7. A counter organization to fight the above (Amalgam, A-LAWS)
8. Civvies
9. Very large "Real Robot" (though they're still horribly unrealistic) mechs.

But there's no Kaname or Whispered. Whatever, Gundam 00 is still copied off FMP. It's sorta fun to watch but FMP rules over it any day.

Well you have those "enhanced" kids .... they could be wannabe whispered.
But gawd I have to start watching the rest of this crap...

I need something to complain about and the weather is getting old.

One other complaint and then I will go sit down, should we conclude that in the future peripheral vision isn't important to for pilots? Some of these guys have one eye covered with hair...

That's another thing that got me. Every major male character has long hair. Besides the fact that it's totally feminine, these guys are in a MILITARY organization, and, like you said, do a lot of flying around.

It's BAAAAACK!

Sci Fi (oh, excuse me Scy Fy...) is showing the second season on their Monday night anime block. Evidently, I didn't tell my DVR to stop recording them. Morbid curiosity has kicked in and I have watched the first three episodes.

On the plus side, they have some nice mecha and tech designs, and the animation is very good.

On the other hand, the protagonists somehow all seem to have survived apparent demise from the first season (sort of like the old Saturday serials where one week you'd see Dick Tracy or Commando Cody buy the farm, and then next week they'd insert the clip of them making their miraculous escape at the last moment), and they all seem to be STILL choking back the tears with every utterance.

I think what bugs me about the emo factor is that most of the military folks I have known have a keen sense of dark humor, that is never displayed in this series.

Okay, okay. That's what the "Off" switch is for, so I won't complain any more. At least not here...

Righto. Still, the best anime weaves humor, action and realistic character development into otherwise fantastic situations. I think Gundam 00 is sort of the antithesis of Full Metal Panic in that respect.

Still, as I said, the series has some very nice animation and I like the tech designs, so I will probably watch more of it. And, as I said before, I promise to whine no more about it. I shall count it among my guilty not quite pleasures.

^--Very true. 00's writing is really bad. It's the kind of show that would never get greenlit if not for the "Gundam" in the title.

But it has given us some very, very nice gunpla. I love my HG Trans-Am O-Raiser. And the Gadessa? Oh, God yes.
