"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

Speaking of new and destructive ways of screwing ourselves over, the things you find on Github today...

Just ...wow. And Canadian Banks are so in the "head in the sand" mindset about cybersecurity in general.

Passed some pretty great milestones with this news :

Voyager 1 now 138 AU away from home. Talk about the ultimate "are we there yet?" roadtrip!!

Did a bunch of work at PARC leading to alot of things we take for granted. And yet Hollywood thinks its relevant to venerate Steve Jobs rather than someone like this?

Drifting a US Aircraft Carrier -- is Takumi at the wheel of this? And where are the Eurobeats? :-D

3,540m (2.19miles) for the longest sniper shot made to date , and done by Canada! Talk about reaching out and touching someone! Picture 6th post down had me laughing my butt off!

Caught Transformers: The Last Knight. To enjoy to the maxium, ensure the following config is applied :

Brain : OFF

Y Chromosome attention to : Big Robots : ON

Y Chromosome attention to : Big Explosions : ON

Y Chromosome attention to : eyecandy XX-Chromosomed characters : ON

Y Chromosome attention to : minimal dialogue : ON

Mess with those settings and you're screwed.

My list of complaints :

- characters and transformers given a quick "intro" shot, then never mentioned again, or worse yet minimal explaination
or backstory as to why I should care about them.

- mcguffin nature of Quintessa, Merlin's staff and Unicron -- hey, 4th time's the charm in the "Save Cybertron"
campaign here.

- The 4 kids and Izabella interchange dialogue, and the "dresses like a stripper" / "you need to get a boyfriend"
dialogue for a supposedly educated and accomplished female character... REALLY?! This set an even worse low, even
by the Age Of Extinction "I can *bleep* your daughter, it's legal" standards.

- 5 movies and Bumblebee's voice issues STILL aren't fixed... SERIOUSLY?!

I'll spare the rant about "failure of basic science education" and the "Descended-From-Merlin" storyline basically
ripped off The Da Vinci's Code plot and puzzle solving execution ...
too long to type up.

Things I did like :

- Hearing Peter cullen and Frank Welker again, and as corny as it was, Cullen's lines about "Autobots and humans
togetherness," especially in these troubled, divisive times, was a welcome message.

- explanation of the swords and "knight" references mentioned in last movie

- MOAR (baby) Dinobots... and Grimlock being his usual G1 jerk personality self. Too bad STILL no "beryllium
baloney / cesium salami" line.

- Laura Haddock as "Lara Croft-in-all-but-name" and Anthony Hopkins being Anthony Hopkins -- the man literally turns the crap they gave him into 24k gold!

- One of the autobot's lines about "I don't have enough ammo for that thing!" namely a HONKING big enemy Decepticon. HAHAHAHHA!

New term I have to start using at work : TITSUP, as in "Rackspace goes Total Inability To Support Users' Packets in global outage"

Damn, that'd be a sweet way to ride... and the article's right, long history of borrowing something that's not ours and doing a joyride with it :)
Like Daddy and Mommy's car friday night...

Been busy lately to check in here...

- did annual con, along with usual antics of alot of Pocky (~$420 worth) and gameshows. May have gone alittle
overboard with one as some people REALLY dug deep to insult / pick on the game hoster.

- watched Despicable Me 3 and Pirates Of the Carribean: Dead Men. Despicable Me 3 was definitely better than
Minions, but the whole "twins I knew nothing about / split at birth" was alittle tropeish. POTC, well, it was
entertaining in a "brain off" kind of way -- turn on brain and everything goes to hell in a handbasket. Some
of Depp and Rushs' lines seemed to be a reflection on "when'd we get so old?" kind of way.

- took a couple days to Vancover and area. Didn't get to go to the island itself, but hit a couple new places
and do new things, like a place called "The Enchanted Forest," and whale watching in the bay. Note to self,
DO NOT drive the entire 1000km trip between Calgary and Vancouver again, take the plane.

- preparing for my brother's wedding this weekend. Thankfully my task list is fairly light, but still making sure
to keep out of any issues / dramady... I hope.

Couple interesting tech links as well :

secure system in the world, the people ALWAYS screw it up!

and inconsiderate jerks.

Brother married, and I have a new sister-in-law and family-in-law. And with that, my time off ends and I'm
back to work tomorrow... *sighs*

Caught Valerian as well : will say that Luc B hasn't lost his touch for visual lushness a la Fifth Element.
Story-wise, heavily based on "The Amabassador Of the Shadows" comics, but only for the key plot points. I'll
also give kudos to Dehaan and Delevingne on this... definitely up for a 2nd viewing.

https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc821 -- 35 years this month since the SMTP standard was formally defined. Then again, this RFC dates back to November 1975. Wow!

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/08/0 ... _evidence/ -- and I thought US ISPs were pushy
with copyright trolling... thought I'm NOT a fan of the tactics the so-called "lawyer" allowed to happen.

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/08/0 ... violation/ -- ugly divorce indeed. Again, dunno what sort of "ethics" said
lawyer was allowing to guide him, unless s/he truely didn't know the source of the communiques they were getting from their client.

Still hot and dry here, been 30C / 86F nearly every day in July and the first couple days in August, sometimes hitting as high as 35C/95F...

Watched Dunkirk... may be alittle odd to follow the 3 POVs and pacing due to its nonlinear fashion, but was a great watch, and
proof war movies a) don't have to be about "Rah-Rah America!" and b) about a clearcut victory : the ending was poignant to point
out while Britain got their Army back, as Churchill famously pointed out, there was tomorrow to get ready for.

I do also admit towards the end was shedding tears as the movie pulled the right heartstrings.

Only complaint I had was Spitfire scenes of (nearly) unlimited ammo and gliding above Dunkirk beach for so long after
no fuel and a full speed-bleeding 180deg turn. Four basic flight forces : lift, thrust, gravity, drag... and after bleeding off that much
speed with a turn like that, well you're not going to be staying up there that long.

Amusing links I came across :

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/08/0 ... _in_italy/ -- literally "fires for fun and profit!"
And a scam as old as time...

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/08/0 ... telescope/ -- Hmm, ANYone can apply for this position?

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/08/0 ... tp_access/ -- a) FTP access, not any variant of SECURED FTP?
and b) if he was able to move stuff that easily that long, mewonders what other holes this firm has with their infrastructure?

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/08/0 ... r_bot_mit/ -- a "sarcasm" detector, huh? How about an "intelligence" detector?

If have and/or you're thinking of investing in a VPN As A Service -- Hide My Ass, PIA, etc -- here's why not to trust services like that too much and their claims
