Helicopter(s) in FMP

Post by blackrose »

Okay dokey... In Episode 1 there was a helicopter that took Sousuke, Kurz, and Melissa to, presumably, Tokyo (unless I missed something) from... the Danaan.

My questions consist of the following:

1) did it take off FROM the sub?

2) was it a make/model that is in existence today? If so, does someone know which one?

3) is it wrong to refer to the 'pilot seat' on a chopper as a cockpit?

4) if I have the pilot climb in from the back/passenger area, am I going to have problems with gun bunnies telling me that can't happen?

5) there is no spoon, I mean, question number 5.

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Love,
Rose

1. Yes
2. NO (Well i never seen a 7 bladed NOTAR chopper before)
3. Prolly Not
4. it's a big transport chopper the pilot could walk prolly ..
5. Yes .. but only if you would wear those cute bunny ears
-

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

NOTAR? Remember I'm an author. I fake things as long as I can.... *wink*

But when research and info is being handed out on silver platters, I greedily absorb as much as I can. :D
4. it's a big transport chopper the pilot could walk prolly ..
Er, I meant, in general, enter the cockpit from the back/passenger area. So, as long as it's possible, and I won't hear something like "In that make/model of aircraft, the cockpit is walled off from the passenger area, making that part of the story impossible", then I'm happy.
5. Yes .. but only if you would wear those cute bunny ears
*wink* I'll wear the bunny ears if you bring the leather chaps with the butt cut out.

*glomps* Thanks, Tau. Oh, and btw, since I'm at work far from my FMP fansubs: where was that mission, and/or, how is it generally referred to, that Sousuke went on towards the end of the middle of the series when he was off with that team trying to retrieve the nuclear missiles? I know that was a high level description, but there was sand, being outsmarted by Gauln, and I think all his team members died. If it wasn't all of them, it was alot of them...

In other words, if I wanted to refer to that mission, how should I refer to it that people here and who've seen the series would semi-recognize what I'm talking about?

Thanks, cowboy. ;)

Well the Danaan has a BIG launch deck,

NOTAR= NO TAIL ROTOR ..
And if you are talking about the FMP transport chopper .. it's not a problem.

Helmadistan, thats the place .. dunno about the high level description
maybe call it the "homeland mission" ? meh?

and unknown source told me the mission was to Kill Gaulun, the nuke was an innocent bystander . ;)

Just my 0.02c...

1) Yes the Danna has a HUGE flightdeck, so you'd only want to try this
stunt on her, an aircraft carrier, or something equally big.

2) Be creative with the name if you wish. X-something always works,
or just a wierd nickname...always happens in real life when a piece
of equipment comes to the front, but doesn't have an official name
(yet). Nicks like 'The Beast' ('cuz it's so darn big) or 'The Boat' (really
just for moving people around) come to mind.

3) Cockpit's a pretty generic term, so no worries.

4) Only in craft that don't have the cockpit linked to the
cargo/passenger area. Have to rewatch, but given it's size, I suspect
the two are joined.

...I presume this is for your Falter fic? The Ep 15-17 arc could
be referred to as 'the Helmajistan job,' or something equally vague.
I think most fans'll pick up on it.

Yep. Military aircraft have nicknames all the time. For example, the B-52 is also known as BUFF (Big Ugly Fat F*cker), The A-7 is known as SLUF (Short Little Ugly Fella), and the C-5 is known as FRED (Friggin' Ridiculous Economic Disaster). In one of Dale Brown's novels (can't remember which), I was amused when one of the Joint chiefs of staff reffered to the XB-52M "Megafortress" (Hero aircraft of all his novels) as "Elliot's Mutant Plane." :-D

Try something like the XH-92 "Megalifter" or something like that. And yes, I have to agree... 7 blades on a NOTAR are abit much... they should have gone with either the OV-22 or the CH-47.

I don't think Jolly Green Giant crews will appreciate that.

@Katyusha
OV-22 would've been a good idea, maybe not futuristic enough for the
animators? We can always chalk the NOTAR to 'BlackTech' somehow,
of course...

-sidenote- Surprised Dale Brown's novels haven't made Hollywood status,
they're flashy enough in some parts.

Agreed. Though I wonder how they plan to stabilize that thing. The OV-22 isn't even in service yet... it's still on the field evaluation stage. Dale Brown's novels are pretty funny... and I agree with the description of Megafortress. "Elliot's Mutant Plane."

SC3k - What is it with you and the MH-53?

OV-22's pretty muched proved itself in demo trials, and it works
well in theory. Props up for VTOL, and props forward for forward
flight, but it's turning theory into reality that kills ya....

Actually I found parts of Brown too 'rah-rah America' or
out of technical reality, but that's just me.

@StromCrow
Ya want a business front-end, try the chopper from Blue Thunder.
20mm turrented Gatling gun surrounded by armor....now THAT'S a
s***storm in ANYONE'S language *hehehe*

No, no, the Mi-24 does better. Even the basic model with 23mm guns will rip the living daylights out of most targets... plenty of ammo too, and she's a flying tank... even carries a squad of troops if you want.

And yeah, Brown's novels are pretty pro-America. But some parts are pretty funny. And I can't believe how many Megafortresses he's had blown up... the only one that never seems to go down is Elliot's.

...kinda like how Voyager had to blow up a shuttle a week? *hehe*
Usually they ding ya for that IRL, don't they? I mean, the B-52 isn't
in production any more, and they aren't getting any younger. :-D
