Note: When Series are dubbed some of the sounds effects are removed

Why? i mean the VA voices are recorded separately and later mixed in with the rest, maybe in they did it in the old days.. ??

i always prefer to wtch subs, if available. but if you watch english series for too long, you get used to the poor voicing... unfortunately...

The English version is really good, but I do prefer the Japanese. I watch the Japanese version when I'm sitting watching the show doing nothing else, but if I'm busy, or want to concentrate on the animation, I watch the English.

I think the chemistry between Tomokasu Seki and Satsuki Yukino is stronger in the Japanese version, and you can't beat Yukino's laugh. And, yes, I love Tomo's voice, so that's another main reason

The only annoyance I have with the English version are the accents. Everyone sounds American!! They could have at least made the effort and given Mardukas an English accent and McAllen an Australian one. Is that so hard? It just sounds soooo wrong.

So as I always say, go with whatever you prefer, and don't critise others for their choices. A lot of people seem to forget that there are a lot of bad Japanese voice actors out there. We can't tell so easily, but I've talked to Japanese friends, and they were giving off about this fact.

To people who haven't watched much anime in Japanese, it can be hard to start to judge how emotional a voice is. It's a foreign language and takes a while to become comfortable with it. I know when I first watched anime, I couldn't tell. Only now after watching a number of shows in Japanese, listening to JPop and JRock and starting to learn Japanese myself, am I fully beginning to appreciate the original language version.

By watching English subs, you are no less an anime fan. I hate people putting labels on certain types of anime fans. We are fans and there is nothing else. Once we label, we begin to destroy our fandom.

On sound effects:
In the past this was common, as once you completed post production of video, you cannot undo it. The only thing that was ever kept back then are masters and not the components as there was simply not enough physical space to store all the tapes. Also, analog tape dosn't have a very long shelf life, so you create a a few baseline master on Betacam tape and store it in a controlled enviornment, which is expensive. Duplication masters are then created from the baseline master. So, back then, you'd have to redo the audio from nearly scratch. Today, with non-linear digital editing, you can easily store the entire project, stock footage and all onto digital tape, optical disk, etc which have a much longer shelf life, are more compact, and more resilient to the enviornment. So when say ADV gets a show, the recieve the premix audio as well. Then they can simply add the new voiceovers to the project, and remix with the background effects and music. This does not prevent production decisions from removing 'questionable' audio effects (i.e. The 'slap' in Martian Successor Nadesico was deliberatly removed from english version, assumingly because it was deemed too offensive), but for the majority of the time, the background audio rarly changes.

Japanese is probaly better, but i don't understand it.

And I thought the voice overs and dubs of the characters were pretty good. The voices all fitted their personalities in my opinion

you have a valid point there, TT. most english voice do fit the personalities of the chars rather well. i'm actually rathe surprised on some japanese voice desicions in several series.
